FediFollows

Hello new followers! 👋

You don't need to wait for me to randomly post interesting accounts to follow. I have a website which lists these accounts organised into categories:

➡️ fedi.directory

If you're not sure how to use the site, click on the "How to use this site" link at the top.

@FediFollows Hiya. I'm on twitter as @helenczerski and also here, posting mostly about science, oceans and bicycles. Is it possible for me to be added to the directory?

@FediFollows first, I'm really grateful for your information and the way in which you present it. Coming across your account has been quite fortuitous.

Question, though, if I may? Where are the spooky categories? Cryptozoology, high strangeness, forteana, etc? I looked everywhere that made sense, then checked science and, nada! (Now that I've typed that, I realize I didn't actually check academia or research so if that's where they are, I'll feel silly!)

@UnclePuck

Good question!

The categories reflect the accounts I've come across, I don't add empty categories.

If you know of accounts or groups devoted to these topics I'd be happy to list them. I'm just one person doing this on a volunteer basis so it is really useful to get suggestions :)

I do have a "monsters" category in the art section, but that's more about artistic depictions of strange creatures.

@FediFollows ok! A further question, do you have a recommended app for using mastodon for beginners? I'm using toooot because it is an "immersive reading" experience for mastodon, which is what I used Reddit for. I'm wondering if I'm not possibly missing out on some other features or something though?

@UnclePuck

If you're on Android I would recommend Tusky:

Fedilab and Tooot are good too.

If you're on iPhone I would recommend Toot! (no relation to Tooot):

Ice Cubes and Ivory are good too.

There are loads of good apps beyond that, these are just a handful to keep this post simple :) Some people prefer different apps for different reasons.

The website is also excellent, try logging in through your server at raphus.social

@FediFollows I used to be a Mastodon user but I gave up on it. Switched to Friendica instead (bc of its have better functionality, like quote posts, theme customization, better notifications settings and UI design itself and etc).

Do you know any Friendica users specifically who aren't German that I can follow (sorry German isn't my native language at all.)?

Is they listed on your website? Thanks in advance for your response.

@expertmanofficial

I generally don't list people by platform, sorry!

However, I do list people from all kinds of platforms on the Fediverse.

Have you tried the Friendica directory? It lets you pick by language, the language options are on the right side of the screen:
