@FediVideo FYI the Android mobile app opens peertube if you click the link. There's no option to watch it from inside the app. It's my biggest complaint about the official app because otherwise I think it's sleeker and less crowded than any alternative.

@moxxi

Are you on the latest version of the official app?

@FediVideo latest update I see is July 16. My phone is a Pixel 8 Pro so I'd be surprised if they didn't at least emulate that model for testing.

@moxxi @FediVideo I will second that motion. It was a bit of a surprise, really, to see the one and only federated video streaming service didn't play well with Mastodon, but hey, these are Early Times, and, thanks to FOSS, we can know it is possible.

@teledyn @moxxi

The other things (liking, commenting, subscribing) should work fine, even if in-app playing doesn't.

Main thing I was trying to get across was that people didn't need to do complicated stuff to log in on PeerTube just to like/comment/subscribe, it can be done directly on the post itself within Mastodon etc.

Obviously it should be playable too though! That is kind of the point of videos!

@teledyn @moxxi

p.s. I couldn't find an existing issue for this, so I've opened a new one at github.com/mastodon/mastodon-a

If you're comfortable using Github, feel free to give this a thumbs up.

GitHubPeerTube videos cannot be played within the app · Issue #872 · mastodon/mastodon-androidBy FediVideos

@FediVideo

@teledyn

That point is fair and sometimes a bit difficult to grasp. It's magic that you can like a video from a different platform boosted by an account that perhaps is also on a different platform from yours.

@moxxi @teledyn

By the way, thanks for the headsup about playback still not working on the official Android app. 🙏

@FediVideo @teledyn no worries! I should probably have opened an issue about it but it didn't even strike me as something that could be an unwanted behavior from the dev team (while complaining about it to myself, I know).
