Seeing some talk about #PixelFed. I made an account on there a while ago. Here's me: pixelfed.social/i/web/profile/
It's part of the fediverse and using ActivityPub, so... what does that mean? Maybe I didn't need to make a new account. I could've used this mastodon one? Can I follow myself from mastodon on there? or what? I'm confused, and I'm not the only one: reddit.com/r/Mastodon/comments

@harry_wood you can read posts from @FediTips about how fediverse works.
Most differnce - is what your account server can do and can show to you, but while both is ActivityPub implementors, they can transfer data (posts, subscriptions etc) between each other. That makes them a part of Fediverse :fediverse:

Hey Harry,

People on Pixelfed can follow Mastodon accounts and can see any Mastodon post which has an image or video clip attached.

Advantage of Pixelfed is that it has image-oriented features, if image posting is your thing then Pixelfed accounts are good.

But if you are mostly about general social media posts, Mastodon is a much better option.

Major downside of Pixelfed is lack of support for text-only posts.

I've tried to summarise it here:

@FediTips @Xen4n @harry_wood #Mastodon isn't the only text-based app on the #Fediverse. The sever I'm on, for exemple, use #Iceshrimp.
